Establishing the camps
As the sites where researchers are working are especially remote, and rarely nearby to human settlements, basic lodging must accommodate all activities in the forest. Our teams live and work in these forests full-time!
BonDiv sites are established always in collaboration with local partners, which in some cases have infrastructure in the field that is shared temporally with the BonDiv field team. On some occasions, the research area is located in a community reserve and therefore the research station is based in a local village.
In camp, solar panel systems have to be installed to ensure the electricity supply needed to charge GPS, computer, and camera traps and water filters provide the water needed for cooking and drinking. Some climate data is collected at the camp as a clearing area is needed to collect precipitation data.
